Getting married in Cuba:
legal document requirements

As recommended by Thomson and First Choice

First Choice Holidays recommend TLC UK Thomson Holidays recommend TLC UK

Cuba’s wedding requirements (like most destinations) will vary according to your personal situation.

When planning your wedding in Cuba your life history (single, divorced, etc) and your nationalities determine which legal papers you will need to have translated and legalised. This process needs to be done precisely and accurately to avoid any disappointments on your wedding day.

The legal requirements for getting married in Cuba are less demanding than other countries, but certain documents may still need to be translated.

The planning and completion of your Cuban wedding documents require visits to the Cuban Consulate at the Cuban Embassy in London, and posting of your documents to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) in Milton Keynes. This can be time consuming and costly (depending on where you live and have to travel from).

A lot quicker then expected!!

So what are the legal requirements for getting married in Cuba?

Cuba’s wedding requirements like for most countries will vary from person to person depending on your personal circumstances. These may also vary depending on whether you and your partner are both British.

When getting married in Cuba if you are both of British nationalities and single there are no documents required. If either person has been previously married, then there are various documents that will need translating. These are shown below.

Documents for two British nationals getting married in Cuba
Single Divorced Widow/er Name Changed/
Adopted
Full Birth Certificate & Certificate of No Impediment Not Required Not Required Not Required Not Required
Decree Absolute Not required Required Not required Not required
Marriage and Death Certificate Not required Not required Required Not required

Please note that the above are national guidelines as issued by the Cuban Consulate. Sometimes, requirements for particular hotels/regions can differ or change from the national guidelines. We strongly recommend that you check with your travel agent or directly with the hotel to get final confirmation on the combination of legal documents you require for your ceremony.

When getting married in Cuba, if one is of Cuban nationality and the other is of British nationality, please see below for the documents you will need to present if you are British.
